A safe and affordable home provides more than shelter. It creates the stability people need to feel secure, access support, rebuild connections and look to the future.
Anglicare’s housing impact study examined residents’ experiences across housing stability, safety, access to support, social connection, empowerment, health and wellbeing. It found that residents experience strong outcomes when affordable housing, secure tenure, practical support and community connection work together.

For years, Holly lived with housing insecurity, rising rents and ongoing financial pressure. After losing her partner and moving between family members' homes, she faced uncertainty about where she would live and whether she could afford to stay there.
Previous housing experiences had also left her feeling unsafe and constantly on guard. Everything changed when Holly moved into Anglicare Housing. For the first time in years, she had a secure and affordable place to call home.
Today, she describes her unit as "my little piece of heaven" and values both the safety of her home and the supportive community around her.
“This is my home. It's my place of security and peace.”
Building a future where more people can access safe, affordable and supportive housing will require coordinated action.
Provide ongoing funding for tenancy support, service navigation and wraparound services alongside social and affordable housing.
Track whether residents remain housed, feel safe, experience wellbeing, access support and stay connected to their communities.
Ensure publicly supported housing remains genuinely affordable for low-income households and is protected from expiring subsidies, sale or conversion to market rent.
Support accessible, safe, private and well-located housing for groups facing heightened homelessness risks, particularly older women.
Increase income support and Commonwealth Rent Assistance, while expanding homelessness prevention, tenancy sustainment and financial counselling.
Establish a long-term housing pipeline, increase capital funding, use suitable government land and strengthen planning mechanisms such as inclusionary zoning.
