May 12 - 18 is National Volunteer Week. It is a time for the nation to recognise the amazing work of approximately 34% (5.4 million) of the Australian population. The ANGLICARE Chesalon Day Centre in Richmond is using National Volunteer Week as a time to honour their nine dedicated volunteers.

ANGLICARE Sydney has received $1.65 million in funding to rebuild a dementia specific day centre at Mt Ousley in the Illawarra. Funding for the project is jointly provided through Home and Community Care by the Commonwealth and NSW Governments.

Jean Smith is an eighty one year old great grandmother who has been volunteering at ANGLICARE’s Parramatta shop for more than eight years. Mrs Smith as she is known at the shop has osteoporosis and leukaemia, but that doesn’t stop her from helping others.
