A new home base for ANGLICARE Moss Vale
After eight years’ in Moss Vale’s historic School of Arts building, ANGLICARE has relocated to 274 Argyle Street.
“When the lease expired at the School of Arts it was a chance for us to think hard about our existing setup, says Matt Harden, ANGLICARE’s local Program Manager.
“We serve a wide range of people, including the elderly, mothers with children and people with mobility issues and our premises needed to accommodate them.
“So we took the plunge and moved up the road. We now have direct access from Clarence Lane and are situated near transport and shops.”
The new location houses their Christian Bookshop, Counselling service and the Sustainable Living/Emergency Relief service.
The Christian Bookshop has a prominent position right out front and is the only Christian Bookshop in the Highlands.
“People are welcome to come in and have a browse. We are increasing our stock every month and also order titles by request from most major Christian suppliers. If we don’t have it, we can get it for you,” says Matt Harden.
“But we won’t be waiting for people to come to us. We have plans to hit the road in the latter part of the year in other towns and villages in the shire. There will be BBQs, information sessions and we will look to taking some of our services there as well,” he says.
“We will look to the local Anglican Churches for their help and support as we plan this venture.
“Again, it’s about being accessible and taking services to where people live,” Matt Harden says.
ANGLICARE arrived in Moss Vale in 1999. Since then, a number of community initiatives have been driven and supported by the church-based organisation.
They include the Moss Vale Community Garden which hosts a mentoring program for young men and a Men’s Shed in Bundanoon.
ANGLICARE is supported by donations from the community, council grants and government funding.
