ANGLICARE celebrates Care2Run runners

Great music and delicious food was in store for City2Surf competitors, friends and family at Café ANGLICARE on Sunday 8 August.

Part of the 2010 City2Surf celebrations, ANGLICARE Bondi opened its doors to hold a Bondi street party to celebrate with the local community and thank runners who raised much needed funds to support carers.

A BBQ, soft drinks, homemade cakes and Caribbean platters were provided as well as various family activities such as face painting and live music.

As one of Australia’s largest Christian charities ANGLICARE offers assistance to thousands of struggling Australians each year. In 2010 the community organisation’s Care2Run campaign raised more than $16,000 for its Carer Support programs that provide care to those looking after someone with a disability. An additional $2,000 was raised at the street party on the day.

Five Anglican parishes – St Barnabas Roseville East, St Andrews Lane Cove/Mowbray, St Albans Frenchs Forest, St Albans Lindfield and St Marks Yagoona – supported the Care2Run campaign and 147 people picked ANGLICARE as their charity of choice to run for in the City2Surf.

According to Grant Simpson, ANGLICARE Assistant Director of Marketing and Donor Support, the event was a unique way for the churches to reach out to their local community.

“I think Care2Run was a great mechanism for the churches to stimulate outreach and a good way to reach the community. Linking the support to carers also gave the event a clearly defined purpose this year,” says Grant.
