Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

ANGLICARE launches strategic plan for 2010-12

ANGLICARE Sydney launches a new Strategic Plan for 2010-2012 this month, with a “people-centred” vision and goals that will guide the organisation’s decision-making and practice into the future.

“This plan is the result of a 12-month long process of consultation and feedback involving clients and employees connected to over 100 services and facilities,” says CEO Peter Kell.

“During that time we have re-examined our capacity to address current social and economic realities and re-affirmed the principles that inform and motivate Christian Care.

The result, according to Mr Kell, builds on the Strategic Plan of 2007-2009 with the vision Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ unchanged.

“This vision still sums up the essence of our organisation, what we do and why,” he says.

“In the new plan we explore further the tradition of practical, Gospel-inspired Christian Care in answer to the question, ‘What makes Christian Care different?’

“We also revise organisational priorities and emphasise working toward explicit outcomes.

“This recognises we are entering a new decade with new challenges and with the help of our research into various areas of social policy we have been able to adapt and confirm some new approaches.”

The new plan positions ANGLICARE Sydney as having moved beyond providing simple safety-nets to a focus on long term, sustainable outcomes addressing the root causes of social exclusion.

It puts priority on examining new models of service delivery such as the Sustainable Living Emergency Relief pilot ANGLICARE Sydney is conducting in Wollongong.

The overall focus is on transformation both in the community and within the organisation.

“Central to our strategic plan is people,” says Mr Kell.

“First of all, we want to see that people in need are cared for, have healthy relationships with their families, are better connected with their communities and develop resilience and hope for the future.

“Secondly, we want to ensure our staff and volunteers are well resourced, well trained and well supported for the tasks that lie ahead.”
