Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

ANGLICARE Penrith are here to help those in need

ANGLICARE is looking to assist people with a disability who require in-home assistance in the Penrith area.

ANGLICARE’s Community Options Program provides Case Management services to people with moderate to severe functional disabilities and their carers.

ANGLICARE Penrith’s Case Management Services Program Manager, Virginia Epthorp, says that their services are aimed at people who are at risk of entering institutions prematurely.

“We are looking to assist people who are at risk of going into care by providing support that will enable them to continue living at home,” Ms Epthorp said.

The program in Penrith can provide short-term practical services like personal care, domestic assistance and lawn-mowing. It also helps clients to liaise with government agencies such as the departments of housing, health and Centrelink.

“There are a number of people in the community who need help because the service system is very complex; we help them to navigate it,” Ms Epthorp said.

Ms Epthorp says ANGLICARE’s goal in providing support is to allow people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

“We’re there to support people with high-needs so they don’t have to move into premature or inappropriate care – we want them to be able to stay in their community for as long as possible,” Ms Epthorp said.

In addition to these services, ANGLICARE’s Case Management works with the carers of their clients to ensure they are also being supported.

“The Case Management Service is very much aimed at carers. It’s about identifying what they need as a carer and meeting those needs,” Ms Epthorp said.

Ms Epthorp says this carer support often comes in the form of connecting carers with services they need help accessing, such as respite care.
