Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

ANGLICARE Shops celebrate 50 years

ANGLICARE shops celebrated 50 years of service to the community on Saturday, 23 October 2010 with high tea at St Anne’s Anglican Church, Ryde.

Celebrating with the organisation were more than 200 women of all ages with many attending from various parishes in the Sydney Anglican diocese.

ANGLICARE staff and members of Petersham Anglican Church’s youth group also had the chance to parade colourful frocks from the 60s through to the current day in front of a packed crowd.

There were also moments of nostalgia as people reminisced over excerpts of music, media and events that defined each decade.

According to ANGLICARE Shops Relationship manager Stephen Kuo, the event was a great success and highlighted the work ANGLICARE shops have been doing throughout the decades.

“It’s been great to see how ANGLICARE Shops have been serving the community for the past half a century. Although the fashions may have changed throughout the decades, the desire to care for people and provide quality affordable clothing remains the same,” says Stephen.

“It has also been exciting to see the growing connection with local parishes and Community Care Services in some of our more recent ventures. Not only are ANGLICARE Shops a place that provides quality second hand clothes, we are fast becoming a place where churches can connect with their local community and find innovative ways to assist them.”

Today 17 shops operate throughout Sydney and the Illawarra providing an exciting range of quality recycled clothing and accessories at prices that won’t break the bank.

Run by paid staff and volunteers, the shops also support various community projects such as Work-for-the-Dole programs.

Funds raised by ANGLICARE shops help to support the work of ANGLICARE throughout the Anglican Diocese of Sydney.
