Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

DisabiliTEA for NDIS

ANGLICARE Sydney hosted DisabiliTEAs across its sites in Sydney and the Illawarra in support of a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) on Tuesday 2 August.

ANGLICARE staff gathered over a cuppa and cake to hear what a NDIS would involve and why it is worthy of support. CEO, Dr Ian Jackson told staff that a NDIS offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve the wellbeing of people with a disability and their carers.

Dr Jackson also affirmed ANGLICARE Sydney’s focus on loving the vulnerable in response to God’s love for the world, shown in Jesus Christ. Dr Jackson said that people with a disability are precious to God and that local churches and communities need to make every effort to be more inclusive.

As a provider of community-based disability and respite services, ANGLICARE Sydney understands that getting the right care opens new possibilities for people with a disability to enjoy greater wellbeing and happiness.

Earlier this year the Productivity Commission recommended in a draft report to the Federal Government that a NDIS be established to provide personal care packages to all people who are born with or acquire a disability.

ANGLICARE Sydney strongly supports the Productivity Commission’s recommendations and urges the Federal Government to accept the final report which was handed to Government this week.

Dr Jackson highlighted that changes in disability funding must preserve case management services to ensure people are assisted to get the most value from their funding packages.

He also established ANGLICARE Sydney’s firm support for equity of access to disability services in remote and regional areas and for culturally and linguistically diverse communities and Indigenous Australians.

ANGLICARE Sydney encourages people to visit the Every Australian Counts website and sign the online petition to show Government that Australia wants and needs a NDIS.
