Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

Lower North Shore Day Centre Opens

Frail aged Lower North Shore residents will have a place to go to for recreation and company with the official opening of a new day centre in Longueville on Wednesday 29 June.

Offering activities from healthy exercises to regular community outings, the new program is designed to break down the social isolation faced by the many frail aged in our communities.

The day centre is located at St Aidan’s Anglican Church, on the corner of Arabella and Christina Streets in Longueville. It will operate from Wednesday to Friday, with transport and meals provided.

Peter Kell, CEO ANGLICARE Sydney said the new day centre is an exciting development in partnership between ANGLICARE, the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care, the Federal Department of Health and Ageing and the local parish.

“We are living longer, and that is a good thing. But longevity can bring new challenges.

“Lack of mobility, social isolation and increasingly complex health and medical needs can exclude many from participating fully in various aspects of life,” said Mr Kell.

“I hope we still live in a nation where the lives and contributions of older Australians are respected and valued. The peace, freedom, prosperity and opportunity we enjoy today are a legacy of their hard work, determination and commitment over many decades.

“The new centre seeks to serve the local community in the Lower North Shore and address a specific and as yet under-met need; support of the frail aged and their carers,” added Mr Kell.

ANGLICARE Sydney has been providing support to the frail aged through its Chesalon day centres for more than 25 years. For more information about accessing Chesalon’s Longueville day centre contact ANGLICARE Chesalon Services on 9427 2666.
