Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

North Shore church cares to run for ANGLICARE

For the past two months a group of people from one North Shore Anglican Church have been meeting regularly every Saturday afternoon to train for City2Surf and raise funds for ANGLICARE.

On 8 August members of St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Lane Cove and their friendswill join more than 70,000 people to run through the streets of Sydney in the race to reach Bondi.

Looking to make a difference in the lives of people through the funds raised for the community organisation, members of St Andrew’s have extended the invitation to people living near the church to train once a week in preparation for the event.

In all 15 people have joined the training group with about 11 members registered to participate in the City2Surf race.

Scott Hamilton, member of St Andrew’s and organiser of the training sessions, says he was encouraged by the idea of a running group right from the start.

“It’s a fun community event that is easily recognisable and a good way to reach out to people,” says Scott.

Other than improving fitness, the training sessions have also been a great team building exercise according to Scott.

“[The training sessions] have been quite successful in that regard. It’s been a good way of getting people together and building relationships with each other. The majority of the congregation aren’t participating in the City2Surf and raising funds for ANGLICARE is also another way more people can be involved in this activity.”

ANGLICARE is the urban mission and community care organisation run by the Sydney Anglican Diocese. As one of Australia’s largest Christian Charities ANGLICARE offers assistance to thousands of struggling Australians each year.

This year the charity will be raising money for its Carer support programs that assist those caring for people with disabilities in the community.
