Lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ

Opening highlights 50 years of service

50 years of service to the community by ANGLICARE shops was celebrated at the grand opening of the newly refurbished ANGLICARE Parramatta store on Tuesday, 17 August 2010.

Decked out with new carpets, fittings, lights and a new lick of paint, the Parramatta store has been given a fresh new shop front to serve the community.

The new look premises has certainly been well received according to Parramatta Shop worker, Eileen Card.

“Everyone has been commenting about how well it looks. All the staff and customers are happy with it. A lot of people have walked in and thought they were in a new boutique,” says Eileen.

“I’ve noticed some spending a bit more time here and looking around for longer as well. We’re also looking forward to seeing more people walk through those doors.”

Not just another store that sells quality second hand clothes at affordable prices, ANGLICARE shops have also become for many a place where people can go for good company and support during the decades.

Working at the Parramatta store is 83 year-old Parramatta volunteer Mrs Jean Smith. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the past ten years Mrs Smith has been turning up to the store to help put clothes on hangers.

“I like the work because it’s helping other people and I like doing the work here. I love all the volunteers and the social interaction. I meet people here where at home I’d be alone. Sometimes I get to entertain little ones while their mothers shop.”

According to Mrs Smith she’d be at the shop every day if she could. “I just love coming. Here I can feel useful.”

Giving her nod of approval to the updated store Mrs Smith says “The shop looks so lovely. I love what they’ve done to it. It looks like a brand new shop now.”
