'Sorry' opens doors to shared future

CEO of ANGLICARE Sydney, Peter Kell, welcomes the Prime Minister’s move to deliver a public national apology later this week to members of the stolen generation.

Whole heartedly supporting the apology, Peter Kell says he is “looking forward to a new chapter in Indigenous relations following the formal apology in Parliament on Wednesday 13 February”.

“We hope the apology will encourage communities to build relationships and partnerships based on mutual respect and understanding,” says Mr Kell.

ANGLICARE Sydney has long been concerned over the issues of poverty and health for Indigenous communities and will continue to listen and work with community elders on a number of projects to assist and support these communities in building capacity and improved well being.

“We are already working with Indigenous communities on the NSW South Coast and in Sydney to provide support in strengthening family relationships through various initiatives.

“We hope in time we will be able to work together more effectively towards a better future for this and future generations.”
