Students transform Carramar cottage garden

Year 10 students from Abbotsleigh collegeYear 10 students from Abbotsleigh recently spent a week digging deep at a cottage owned by Anglicare as part of a learning program that incorporates community service.

The students cleared the overgrown yard and replanted to create a safe, water-wise and low maintenance garden suitable for toddlers and children.

The cottage will become home to a young mother who will receive mentoring and support through Anglicare's Carramar Early Interventions program.

Kate Ross, Anglicare's Schools Coordinator says the project was entirely planned and executed by the students as part of an Applied Learning Experience.

They were also able to meet Anglicare staff and learn more about the organisation's work with young parents and vulnerable families.

"We really value what the girls achieved," she said.
