The Body Shop supports Western Sydney mum
With Mothers Day just around the corner, it is normal for mums to get excited about the treasures they will receive on Sunday. However, for the young mums that attend the Carramar Early Interventions program, Mothers Day will be continuing through into next week.
Carramar is a part of ANGLICARE’s Child, Youth and Family Services. It provides a unique service of support to pregnant and parenting women up to 25 years of age with children up to 5 years of age.
On May 14 Carramar mums will be spoilt by The Body Shop when they receive a support booklet about building healthy relationships and a lovely bottle of cassis rose shower gel.
The support booklet is entitled, ‘Expect Respect’. It promotes The Body Shop’s ongoing ‘Stop Violence in the Home campaign’. The booklet is aimed at helping young people learn how to build healthy respectful relationships.
The booklet coincides with the development program conducted by Carramar on Wednesday’s. The program focuses on ‘Healthy Relationships’ and is a parent-only group facilitated by Carramar staff. The group addresses the foundations of healthy relationships, the importance of fostering respectful relationships in the home and ways to communicate your feelings effectively.
The Body Shop Australia Values Coordinator, Deb Baxter, says the Mothers Day gift-giving program allows young mums to feel loved and supported.
“The program gives us the opportunity to really value mums who have done it tough” she says.
“Some of these women have experienced domestic violence, their human rights have been violated and their self esteem is probably pretty low, so we’re just proud to be able to support and reward them for getting back on their feet.”
The Body Shop and Carramar have organised this event to make sure the young mums know how appreciated they are and what a wonderful job they are doing as parents.
Louisa Fallon, Coordinator of Carramar Early Interventions, says the recognition displayed by The Body Shop will really boost the self esteem of the young mums.
“Many of the young women at Carramar have few family supports and are primarily sole parents, so Mothers Day really is a time for them to receive recognition for the wonderful job they do as a mum and to celebrate in their parenting achievements” she says.
“They will leave the group with a beautiful Body Shop gift, knowledge of what they rightly deserve from a relationship and no doubt, big smiles on their faces.”
