"I welcome this opportunity to participate in this celebration of Anglicare’s commitment to further extending residential living services to seniors. I recognize also the prospects of enhancing ways services might be provided in domiciliary settings for older citizens in need of support in small or large measure. This extension would be in keeping and complementary to the comprehensive range of community and welfare services Anglicare offers especially to those less well placed in Australian society. Full and proper recognition must be given to the tasks Anglicare pursues in what seems to me a significant contribution to bringing about a more just society.
At a time when the proportion of elderly in Australian is growing and will be accelerating from 2012, this impetus for growth and extension of the range of services offered by Chesalon Living reflects a courageous commitment at a time when financing of these services remains problematic.
The general financial position of aged care entities has been deteriorating over the last year or so. For the most part this deterioration reflects rising wages costs in face of a funding arrangement through the Australian Government which is in very serious need of reconstruction..."
