Who is Caring for the Carers?

ANGLICARE Sydney has become increasingly concerned at the plight of carers who are accessing community respite, support and emergency relief services.

Feedback from program workers and a mid term evaluation of ANGLICARE’S Support Coordination program have provided the opportunity to explore the carer experience more deeply.

ANGLICARE’s report, ‘Who cares for the Carers’ report endeavours to highlight the gap between receipt of services and the perceived need for such support as well as the impact that caring has on those who have undertaken a caring role – either by choice or through circumstance.

It is hoped that such insights will continue to provide input into both the wider community and government understanding of the value of caring and the benefit derived by all by such commitment.

It is also hoped that other research in relation to poverty detailed in this report leads to a very specific lens into the world of those carers who are suffering multiple disadvantage and deprivation, thus providing some lessons on potential ways forward.
