Lisgar Youth Support Program
The Lisgar Youth Support Program, an activity of ANGLICARE Child, Youth & Family Services in partnership with DoCS OOHC Metro-Central Sydney region, aims to assist young people aged between 10-25 and/or their parents/carers by filling gaps in service provision and supporting OOHC placements.
Lisgar does this through the provision of mentoring, casework, counselling, family restoration & support. In addition, Lisgar can provide an independent living service to clients who are ready to transition away from the out of home care system. Through our independent living program Lisgar can offer assistance to:
- Young people aged between 16-25 years who are current OOHC or Aftercare clients and are ready to move on into independent accommodation, through transition planning, referral and support with independent living or life skills education.
- Clients aged between 16-18 years who are seeking long-term supported independent housing. This program area is a joint venture between ANGLICARE Youth Services & St George Community Housing and seeks to offer limited housing to young people from OOHC who wish to reside in the St George or Sutherland areas of Sydney.
Generally, the type of assistance Lisgar can provide is dependent on what clients want to be different in their lives. Our practice is informed by a Brief Solution Focused model, and as such our case direction is guided by the clients stated goals, a focus on client strengths and exceptions to problematic behaviour.
Most of Lisgar’s work occurs outside the office environment. In seeking to be as accessible as possible to our client group we will often meet at a location that is comfortable for them – such places might include home, school, cafés, parks, etc. We also have a counselling room at our Hurstville office.
Lisgars’s funding relationship with the Department means that we can only accept referrals from case managers located in the Metro Central Sydney region of DoCS. Due to limited resources Lisgar can only service clients referred through CSCs that are located within a half hour radius of our Hurstville office. These CSCs include Central Sydney, Burwood, Lakemba, St George or Sutherland offices. Lisgar can accept referrals from other CSCs within the region if the client being referred is relocating or resides within our service delivery area.
