Classic toys unlock memories for elderly residents
Toys from a bygone era are helping to unlock memories for many elderly and frail aged residents at our Residential Care Homes.
Our classic toy collection featured 49 toys dating back to the 1940s, including old favourites like the London Routemaster, a ‘ride on’ Dinky, and a toy merry-go-round.
Anglicare’s Music Consultant, Mark Pentecost, says he was thrilled to see residents ‘come alive’ when the collection made its debut at Newmarch House early last year.
“Residents shared stories of the fun they had as children… while others couldn’t articulate what they were thinking, their faces and body language said it all.”
This reminiscence resource is unique to our organisation and will tour all of Anglicare’s residential care homes.
