This is a pre-requisite for Advanced Pastoral Care and is suitable for people interested in becoming volunteers in Hospitals or a local church Pastoral Care Ministry.
This introductory level training involves attending a short practicum course comprising learning modules and practical work totalling 40 hours, usually over 5 days at a given location advertised on this web page. You can choose whether you apply for the aged care stream, the hospital stream, the prison stream, the mental health stream or alongside a Community Chaplain. An award indicating the successful completion of the short practicum course will be given at the conclusion of proceedings to everyone who meets the assessment requirements.
On a solid Christian foundation, this course emphasizes learning from your own pastoral interactions with people. You will have the opportunity to engage with important foundational teachings from the Bible as they relate to practical pastoral care and evangelism. You will also have the opportunity to discover the nature of your own pastoral interventions. In group supervision we will reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of your ministry, beginning to build on the things you do well and minimize the interactions that don’t adorn the gospel. You will be able to give and receive accurate feedback in a safe environment, building self-awareness and interpersonal sensitivity, practicing pastoral skills and trying a variety of options for pastoral care and evangelism.
