Disaster Recovery Volunteers

Australia has experienced natural disasters such as bushfires, floods, storms, cyclones and even earthquakes.

We’ve seen images in the media of heroic volunteers helping people they’ve never met to endure tragic and traumatic events.

Anglicare Sydney is one of four not-for-profit organisations partnering with the NSW government (Ministry of Police and Emergency Services) to assist evacuation and recovery services, for large scale disasters and emergencies across the state. Anglicare volunteers work alongside Red Cross, Salvation Army and ADRA. Every community partner has an assigned role in the event of a disaster and is coordinated by the Department of Family and Community Services.

ANGLICARE Disaster Recovery volunteers work in a team. They vary in age and backgrounds, come from a variety of Churches, and have different skills, education and interests. All our volunteers receive training, undergo a NSW Police check and provide a current working with children check.

Many of our volunteers are motivated to help as a way of showing God’s love in action to neighbours facing one of the most desperate times of their lives.

What are you waiting for?

You could be just the person we need to help and equip a community facing natural disaster. Only trained volunteers who are part of a team can assist. If you want to assist please email Disaster Recovery to find out about your nearest team and the next Disaster Recovery training session.

Anglicare only activates its volunteers when it receives orders from the NSW Department of Family and Community Services to ensure that disaster recovery activities are coordinated and officially recognised.

Quotes ‘When disasters strikes people often ask “How can I help?” Our volunteers are already trained, registered and ready to go at a moment’s notice to provide material aid and general support in evacuation and recovery centres.

The devastating 2013 Blue Mountains fires were close to my house. I heard about the amazing work of the Disaster Recovery Team which manned evacuation centres and provided aid to the affected.
