Past adoptions

Are you looking for adoption information about you or your child's adoption through Anglicare? Maybe you would like to meet members of your birth family? We understand this might be an emotional and difficult process for you. We're here to support you however we can.

If you or your child's adoption was conducted before 1998, you need to apply to the Department of Communities (DCJ) for an Adoption Information Certificate and your Memorandum of Adoption. Once you provide these documents to Anglicare, we can open your Anglicare Adoption file. The files contain information recorded at the time of your adoption, as well as correspondence and records of events since your adoption.

Anglicare can support you to understand the circumstances surrounding your adoption and help you decide what you would like to do next. If you would like to reach out to a birth family member, we can help you find them and support you in organising a reunion.

If your or your child's adoption was conducted after 1998, you will need to contact Department of Communities and Justice as Anglicare is not involved in providing this information to you. The Department of Communities and Justice contact details are included below:

Post Adoption Information Unit (PAIU) on 1300 799 023 (local call within Australia) or adoption.information@facs.nsw.gov.au

You may also like to visit the Department of Communities and Justice website which has information available about searching for your birth family, as well as instructions on how you can obtain your Adoption Information Certificate and your Memorandum of Adoption.
