Anglicare Low Cost Food Van Drives Dollar Further for Low Income Families

Anglicare Sydney and the local Ropes Crossing Church have teamed up to provide low cost food for those in need in the community.

Stocked with household pantry items, Anglicare Sydney's Mobile Community Pantry will be arriving at Ropes Crossing Community Hub, 54 Pulley Drive, Ropes Crossing, every fortnight to distribute food from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

For a $10 contribution, eligible low income families will be able to take home a shopping bag full of food worth close to $60.

“It is just one way to help families with their weekly budget,” says Teresa Clark, Anglicare Sustainable Living Business Manager.

“By saving here, it will help them pay for other essential items like the rent, electricity and water bills. It may also come in handy when unexpected events, such as a sudden hospital visit or a car breakdown, set a very tight budget back for that week.”

According to Peter Wood, Pastor at Ropes Crossing Church, this new initiative is a great way for the church to assist people who are struggling financially in the community.

“We are looking for fresh opportunities to reach out to our local community and find practical ways to share Jesus’ love with people. Our goal at Ropes Crossing Church is to see Western Mt Druitt and the Penrith area transformed by the love of Jesus,” says Peter.

“Our church doesn’t have the resources to run a support program like the Mobile Community Pantry by ourselves. The partnership with Anglicare gives us the opportunity to try something new to reach out to those in our community who may be finding it difficult to make ends meet.”
