Anglicare Sydney and Shellharbour City Anglican Church have teamed up to provide low cost food for those in need in the community.
Stocked with household pantry items, Anglicare Sydney’s Mobile Community Pantry will be arriving at 25 Wallaroo Drive Shellharbour every fortnight to distribute food from 1:30-2:30pm, starting Friday, 22 February.
For a $10 contribution, eligible low-income families will be able to take home a shopping bag full of food worth close to $60.
“With steep increases in the cost of living, there are many people in our community who are under financial stress,” says Matt Madigan, Anglicare Mobile Community Pantry Manager.
“The mobile community pantry is one way we can help people stretch their budget further.”
For Jon Thorpe, Senior Minister at Shellharbour City Anglican Church, the partnership with Anglicare is one way to live out the Christian calling.
“We live in a diverse area and some people are doing it tougher than others. As Christians we are called to love our neighbour as ourselves and the Mobile Pantry was one way we could partner with Anglicare to practically live out that calling,” Jon explains.
“We have a team of 10 volunteers from the Church involved in the community pantry. We hope our efforts express our love for Jesus, and show Christ’s love for others.
“We want to help people in our community with their food needs, but we also want to engage with them about how Jesus answers our greatest needs.”
Anglicare’s Mobile Community Pantry will visit Shellharbour City Anglican Church every second Friday, from 1:30pm
