Today, Anglicare Sydney announced its participation in the Australian Aged Care Collaboration campaign to fix Australia’s aged care system.
“20 reports in 20 years to government and yet the aged care system is still broken,” CEO of Anglicare Sydney, Grant Millard said.
“While the rest of the world spends an average of 2.5% of their GDPs on aged care, Australia spends 1.2% of GDP on aged care. That’s half the international average.
“Australia’s population trending older and 80% of aged care recipients live in their own home. To meet this significant growth, the sector will need 78,000 extra workers in the next 10 years.
“As shown by the massive losses reported by aged care providers – both big and small, city and country – the sector simply cannot provide the care that Australians deserve without significant increased funding from government.
“The Royal Commission into Aged Care has done an outstanding job to date in showing how the sector needs to improve and how the government needs to help the sector.
“We want to provide the best possible care for Australians ageing so they can grow older with dignity and grace.”
