The Village Dentist at Anglicare’s Castle Hill site has been awarded the Outstanding Organisation Award at the 2019 HESTA Aged Care Awards.
Oliver Cvekus, Director of the Village Dentist, accepted the award and said that the aim of their practice is to not only help clients with their dental needs, but to have a holistic impact on their health and wellbeing.
“It isn’t just about relieving dental pain, it’s also about making changes to improve quality of life and to preserve their ability to smile with their loves ones and eat glorious food.
“The award provides the unique opportunity to voice the link between oral health and general health and grow awareness of the importance of dental health care in older Australians,” said Dr Cvekus.
Dr Cvekus is passionate about dental care for older people and has been running education sessions for residents focusing on how to maintain good dental hygiene as they age.
“Good dental hygiene is an important part of ensuring the wellbeing of residents in Retirement Living and especially in Residential Aged Care, and we are working closely with The Village Dentist and Dr Cvekus to expand the services he can offer to our residents while keeping them affordable for those with limited income,” says Ian Searle, Health and Hospitality Manager at Anglicare’s Castle Hill site.
The award came with a cash prize, and Dr Cvekus said the money would go towards purchasing a new lifter, so the practice can continue to safely move ageing patients who have limited mobility.
“This will enable them to have the necessary dental treatment that would otherwise be impossible for them,” said Dr Cvekus.
The Village Dentist is a modern dental facility for the residents of the Anglicare Retirement Villages and Residential Aged Care homes at Castle Hill, and other elderly or less mobile members of the wider community.
