Anglicare Sydney was advised by the NSW Public Health Unit at 10.40pm on Saturday 11 April 2020 that a staff member who had been working at Anglicare’s Newmarch House in Caddens has tested positive for COVID-19.
We were further advised on 12 April that a resident tested on the 10 April returned a positive result. We are awaiting test results for a second resident.
All residents in the home are in self-isolation in their own rooms. All staff have been directed to wear full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when caring for residents.
Staff who have been in close contact with either the resident or affected staff member are self-isolating at home, self-monitoring for symptoms, and will be tested if they show any symptoms.
All families of the residents have been contacted and all staff who work at the site have been briefed.
Anglicare is deploying staff specially trained in working with COVID-19 and will now work solely with the resident who has tested positive.
Anglicare is working closely with the NSW Public Health Unit to identify further cases of COVID-19.
Since Anglicare activated its COVID-19 Prevention and Management Procedure at the beginning of March 2020, thorough hygiene controls, screening measures, and preventative decisions – that includes restricted access of all our Aged Care Homes – have been implemented.
Anglicare continues to follow strict guidelines provided by the NSW Public Health Unit. Anglicare’s highest priority is the safety, health and wellbeing of residents, staff, and volunteers.
