The Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub will be hosting an event this Thursday, 19 October as part of Anti-Poverty Week 2017.
From 9:30am – 2:30pm, the community group will provide a free breakfast and BBQ lunch at 28 Pirie St as well as entertainment, communal art activity, the Mobile Shower bus, basic haircuts and oral health kits. Organisers anticipate well over 80 people will access the breakfast and lunch services on the day.
“Anglicare will be there on the day to provide easy access to our Food and Financial assistance services and link people up with our Fresh Food Tuesdays and our Mobile Community Pantry,” explains Anita Cuca, Anglicare Program Manager.
“The hub was created through a partnership of several local community organisations and Churches to help combat the growing need for food security, secure housing and assist those facing financial difficulty. The hub functions on a fortnightly basis and offers services like Case Management, Advocacy, Emergency Relief and information.”
Anglicare is involved in the Community Kitchen as one of the Food and Financial Assistance providers within the Liverpool city area.
“Being involved in the Community Kitchen offers people who need our help in a more holistic experience in a timely manner. It also strengthens our networks with other services who are also there on the day such as Mission Australia, Housing NSW, Centrelink, Wesley Mission and Ability Links,” says Mrs Cuca.
“Depending on the complexity of the situation, we generally assist by offering information and support through food, food vouchers, Opal cards, sleeping bags or swags, assistance with utility bills, rental arrears or removalists. We also advocate on behalf of the client and link them to our other services such as financial counselling and family support.”
