After more than three years in development and construction, Anglicare’s newest aged care facility, Dudley Foord House, will officially open on Thursday, 29 June.
Located at The Ponds, Dudley Foord House offers all levels of care, including dementia specific care and will benefit more than 104 older people in the Hills district.
Grant Millard, Anglicare CEO highlights that the completed Dudley Foord House is the latest residence in a long history of care for the organisation.
For more than 160 years, Anglicare has sought to serve those in need – physically, emotionally and spiritually. Regardless of age, cultural backgrounds or religion, we believe people have intrinsic value because they all are made in God’s image, and should be cared for with dignity and respect,” says Mr Millard.
“Dudley Foord House is the latest extension of our Christian care for older people; people with dementia; and their families. There’s a great atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. ‘Person-centred care has influenced every detail in the residence – attracted artwork, lots of places to socialise; different door colours to help people find their way; and personalised ‘memory boxes’ that reflects each person outside their room.
“Dudley Foord House also offers a chaplain and pastoral carer to support the spiritual needs of residents. There are dedicated lifestyle staff, who are available all week, to facilitate a number of activities for residents with clubs, groups and outings.
“While state of the art facilities are important, even essential, but it is our care and value for the individual that sets us apart.”
The new aged care centre incorporates a ‘village feel Main street’ complete with shop fronts within the premises for services, such as the hairdressers, wellness centre and café.
Seven connected wings of the home open to internal courtyards and beautiful gardens. Some of these courtyards contain chicken pens, bird houses, raised garden beds and gardening sheds. Other courtyards contain garden features such as a pergola or bridge, as well as undercover areas such as the rotunda. All outdoor areas are on the same level as the home for ease of access.
Anglicare reaches approximately 50,000 people every year and is one of the largest Aged Care providers in Greater Sydney and the Illawarra Region.
