When Sabrina Brar heard she'd won Future Leader of the Year at the National Retirement Living Awards, she was very surprised. "I didn't expect it," she says. "It was humbling, but more than anything, it was a reminder of why I love what I do."
Yet, Sabrina's award didn't come as a surprise to her colleagues. As one of the youngest Village Managers at Anglicare, Sabrina brings not only energy but a deep commitment to care. She's brought her village to life with "Flamenco dancers, paella nights, Bastille Day lunches, Spring-garden parties, Christmas in July, you name it." But that's not the only reason we're proud of her. For Sabrina, these moments of celebration are about more than entertainment; they are about connection.
When she first moved from Canada to Australia seven years ago, Sabrina knew no one. Now, she's helping others find the sense of community she longed for. Her dedication goes beyond organising events. It's about creating a safe space where residents feel seen and supported through life's ups and downs. She recalls one resident recently grieving the loss of his wife of over 60 years. "He opened up about how much he was struggling. I reassured him that asking for help isn't weakness, it's strength. He wasn't alone. Myself and the whole team were there to walk alongside him."
It's this deep commitment to care that earned Sabrina the Future Leader of the Year award, a recognition Anglicare is incredibly proud of. With passionate leaders like Sabrina Brar at the helm, we know the future of senior care is in compassionate, capable hands.
