Home for Christmas

Few words carry as much emotional weight as "home". For many, it's a place of safety, rest, laughter, and belonging. For others, it evokes longing, a desire for stability, for a place to call their own. And for some, it holds cherished memories.

What comes to mind when you think of being home for Christmas?

For me, it brings back memories of returning from my first job in Africa to be with family in Europe. Now, decades later, I find myself hoping my son, who studies overseas, will join us around the table. This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate our first Christmas in a home we now own, a long-held dream finally realised by God's grace.

Ultimately, our true home and hope are found in Jesus. Yet, I'm mindful of those for whom Christmas is painful, those grieving, those alone, and those for whom homeownership feels out of reach. Proverbs says, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick," and Christmas often amplifies both joy and sorrow. But Psalm 34:18 reminds us:  "The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

At Anglicare, Christmas is our busiest season. We walk alongside people in crisis, offering practical support and the hope we have in Christ. With your partnership, we strive to ensure homes are places of safety, and that no one is left without food, care, or hope.

From our home to yours, Merry Christmas.
