The foster carer assessment process isn't about passing a test. It's about working together to make sure children are placed in homes where they will be safe, supported and cared for.
Once you become an approved foster carer, Anglicare will work alongside you to ensure any child who comes into your home is supported in a way that promotes their wellbeing and yours. Together we consider the child's needs, your family's strengths, and what will help everyone feel safe and prepared.
Throughout the foster carer assessment process, you'll meet with one of our friendly and experienced assessors. These interviews are respectful, open conversations, which give you a chance to share your story, explore your motivations, and ask any questions you may have. We will listen carefully to understand your strengths, values, and support needs. Cultural background and family dynamics are always considered as part of these discussions. Our aim is to support, not judge.

Together, you'll look at areas such as:
This helps us understand how a child might fit into your home and what support you may need. Anglicare will provide practical guidance on any small changes that can help make your home even more welcoming.
Being approved to become a foster carer is a wonderful milestone.
When you're approved, Anglicare will work closely with you to match a child to your home. We'll have placement conversations, explore what type of care might suit you, and provide any further training that may be helpful. There's no rush. A child will only be placed with you when you feel ready.
This stage marks the beginning of a meaningful and rewarding journey, and Anglicare will continue to walk alongside you with ongoing support and guidance.
