Walgett Indigenous Ministry

Anglicare is partnering with the Diocese of Armidale to support the Indigenous community of Walgett and Collarenebri as they deal with the struggles of everyday life.

The hurts of the past and the cycles of disadvantage continue to affect many within the Indigenous community of Walgett and Collarenebri. Many suffer from ongoing social issues and death is far too common, leaving families to deal with grief.

George Ferguson, who works as a chaplain in this area, takes on average one funeral every week. This project will look to support Indigenous families in mourning by providing pastoral care and the comfort of God’s Word.

This project also seeks to enable and support people to make better life decisions so they can build a better future for themselves and provide a good role model for the generations after them. This is done through a men’s group that meets once a month, and by spending time pastorally within the community.

Please pray for the Indigenous community of Walgett and Collarenebri, and particularly for those who are grieving.
