Anglicare Sydney welcomes the release of the Aged Care Taskforce Final Report, principles and recommendations as a vital step towards building a more accessible, fairer and sustainable aged care sector.

Anglicare Sydney CEO, Mr Simon Miller, said “As our population ages, the need to provide person-centred care for older Australians is a critical challenge for the government, industry and for all Australians.

“We want to continue to provide life-enriching communities of care, with high quality and personalised services, to support more people in the decades ahead. The recommendations of the Taskforce, if adopted, will underpin investment in staff, services, and facilities for decades to come.

“The report recommendations will help the Government and sector to ensure that older Australians are provided with support and care when they need it, as they choose.

“I’m particularly pleased with the focus on a strong Commonwealth-funded aged care social safety net, which means access will continue to be based on need, not ability to pay, while ensuring that those with greater means can make a bigger contribution,” Mr Miller said.

Anglicare Sydney strongly supports steps to secure the sector’s financial sustainability, ensuring that it can attract and retain a skilled workforce to meet the growing demand for aged care services. Anglicare Sydney also welcomes recommendations that encourage the development and delivery of innovative care models.

“The measured and modest proposals to reform accommodation payments, including a phased transition to a rental model for residential care over the next decade, demonstrates a considered approach to safeguarding the sector’s stability.

“The Taskforce's extensive consultation with consumers, providers, and other stakeholders means the Commonwealth Government and Parliament can be confident to develop and implement the recommendations.

“We look forward to working with the Minister, the Department and other stakeholders to add the policy detail to these recommendations, which will ultimately deliver a better aged care experience for all,” Mr Miller concluded.
