What steps has Anglicare taken to prepare for residential care under the new Act?

With the new Aged Care Act, Anglicare wants residents and families to feel confident that the care they already know and trust will continue — with even greater support and transparency. We continue to :  Trialled two new apps to improve communication - BestMed Connect: This app provides residents and families with real-time updates on medications. It helps to improve safety, reduce paperwork, and makes it easier to share decisions about care.  - My Rhythm: This app is a self-service and communication platform which we are currently trialling and hope to launch early 2026. Why this matters: These changes are designed to give residents a better daily experience, help families feel more connected and informed, and give staff the tools they need to provide the best care possible. Who it helps: Residents are empowered to have more choice to ensure they receive personalised care that is right for them.   Families and supporters have greater transparency and more ways to stay involved and connected with their loved one. Staff have better and smarter tools to provide quality, holistic person-centred care.

How does Anglicare support residents to have a say in their care?

Accepted Answer

The rights of older people to be involved in decisions about their care and daily life is a key focus of the new Act.  At Anglicare, this is already an integral part of how we work. Every resident’s values, preferences and choices are discussed when they move in and are reviewed regularly through care planning and everyday conversations with staff. Residents are encouraged to share their wishes through meetings and feedback channels, or simply by speaking directly with our team. Family members and registered supporters can also be involved if residents want them to be.  At a community level, our WElders (Wise Elders) program gives residents a stronger voice. Representatives meet regularly to raise ideas and concerns about daily routines, dining, activities and wider organisational decisions. Their feedback goes to Anglicare's leadership team and helps shape the way care is delivered.  By combining individual care planning with formal resident representation, Anglicare already reflects the rights-based approach of the new Act, ensuring residents have choice, independence, and influence in their care.
