Minchinbury Kids Community Worker

Our local area is very family-centric. The average household size is higher than average (3.2 people per household vs. 2.6 across NSW). There are more people in marriages (50% vs. 47% for NSW) and less in de facto relationships (6% vs. 11% for NSW). More people are paying off mortgages (41% vs. 33% for NSW) but income per capita is lower ($46k vs $57k for NSW).

Without supportive community environments, children from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to experience emotional distress, behavioural issues, and fall behind in school. Parents, especially in CALD communities, often struggle with parenting in a new cultural context, lack confidence, or feel judged when seeking help. Many families in our area are also dealing with housing instability, financial hardship, or relationship stress.

Minchinbury CCP

Community consultation and church engagement has shown a recurring theme: parents are asking for help—both with parenting and with finding community for their children.

It is in this context that the Minchinbury Kids Community Worker seeks to empower families and children to thrive by building resilient, connected, inclusive communities that support the positive development of children and young people. Specifically, they are involved in the following activities:

  • Overseeing weekly programs at church aimed at connecting kids and families in our local community (e.g. PlayTime, Kids Club, and Kids Church).
  • Coordinating Holiday and Community events for families (e.g. "Big Day In" Holiday Club, Family Fun days, Easter and Christmas events).
  • Deepen connections between the church and local schools through assemblies, SRE classes, and other opportunities.
  • Support women and their children attending our regular "Empower Women" course.
  • Assisting families find support or access services related to the well-being of their children.

Please pray for this ministry in Minchinbury and surrounding suburbs; that we will love Jesus and show Jesus' love.
