I want to help migrants and refugees

Header image website

Imagine moving to a new country where you do not speak or understand the local language. It’s easy to recognise how difficult this might make even the simplest of tasks, like doing your weekly grocery shop. Because language is a vital part of communicating and connecting with others, without it many migrants experience isolation and loneliness.

Everyday English classes and conversation groups are a wonderful demonstration of Christian care, acceptance and friendship to those who are adjusting to a new culture. They are a practical way for you and your church family to love migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in your community.

Everyday English – a wonderful way to love your community

A wonderful way for you to love your community

The Anglicare Cross-Cultural Services team equips church volunteers to offer English lessons by providing:

  • Training in teaching Everyday English
  • Cultural awareness training
  • Free English lesson resources
  • Support to use the Bible appropriately in class
  • Assistance to get started
  • Two in-person teacher training days each year
  • Ongoing support, and tailored training from Anglicare’s team of advisors

Whether it’s a structured class or a less formal conversation group, we aim to equip you to reflect the generosity of Christ to your neighbours, through Everyday English.
