Family restoration and preservation

Family restoration

A priority of the Department of Communities and Justice (formerly Family and Community Services) is keeping children safely together with their families wherever possible. When there is a realistic possibility of a child being restored to their birth parents, Anglicare works with birth parents to achieve this goal.

The child’s best interest is at the centre of this important work and all decisions are made to help establish a permanent and stable home environment.

Anglicare works with birth parents to eliminate those dangers identified in their home environment, which first led to their child being removed from their care. A child is only reunited with their birth parents when it is best for their long-term safety, welfare and wellbeing.

Anglicare’s Family Restoration Service work side by side with Anglicare’s Foster Care team. Where restoration is ruled as not viable, the next options explored are kinship care, guardianship or adoption.

Family preservation

If there are child protection concerns currently present in your home, Anglicare can help you through this difficult time.

We work closely with families to build safe nurturing environments that allow children to be safe and your whole family to thrive. This home-based service provides you with support to build your skills, important parenting information, access to resources and a connection to community that can lessen child protection concerns.

There is a strong focus on keeping families together.

We work with families with children aged from birth to 18 years, however referrals are made to these programs by Department of Communities and Justice only.

Intensive family preservation

The focus of this work is to prevent children being placed in the Out of Home Care system, keeping vulnerable families together.

This is a voluntary six-month goal-oriented program. For the first three months, there is 24/7 on-call service to provide the level of support you’ll need to make the changes necessary to eliminate child protection dangers in your home.

We work with families with children aged from birth to 18 years, however referrals are made to these programs by Department of Communities and Justice only.
