Respite care

Rest is vital for your body, soul and spirit. That’s why Anglicare provides several quality options for respite care, helping you and your carer to prioritise time to recharge.

Best of all, if you currently have a Commonwealth Home Support Programme or Home Care Package, you may be able to put that funding towards your respite care. You can also pay for these services privately.

Centre-based respite

A day out for you, a day of well-earned rest for your carer! You’ll love coming to Anglicare’s bustling respite and social wellness centres each week. With day trips, gardening, cooking, games, art and music therapy, exercise classes and pastoral care on offer, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Activities are planned to suit a diverse range of needs and people, with special care taken to provide meaningful engagement for those living with dementia.

Transport to and from your centre is also available at the designated pick-up area nearest to you. We also provide freshly cooked, healthy meals that cater to your dietary needs. You might even be able to use your Commonwealth Support Programme funding or Home Care Package to cover or subsidise the cost. Alternatively, you can also pay for this service privately. We have social support groups (also known as Social and Wellness Centres) located across Sydney, the Blue Mountains, New England and Mt Ousley.

Respite in your home

Tailor your respite care to suit your exact needs. If your carer needs to go to work, or a regular day every month for some respite, one of our skilled care workers can come to you in your home. They’ll provide you the support you need around your home, and they can even accompany you out and about if you want to run errands, take a walk or do something social.

Respite in residential aged care home

Respite is perfect if you need to have a short or temporary stay at one of Anglicare’s residential aged care homes. During your stay, you will receive the care you need, all your meals will be provided and you can join in on all social activities. Respite in a residential aged care home is suitable if your carer is planning a holiday or recovering from medical procedure. The minimum length of stay for respite is two weeks.
