Dining is so much more than what you eat. Meals not only bring nourishment, they can unite people, encourage conversation and provide a social environment. In our residential care homes it is important to us that the residents not only have the choice of what to eat, but also where and when to eat.
It is our belief that the food we serve is nutritious and appealing to the residents. For this reason we employ a nutritionist and team of professional chefs who cook the high-quality meals. In consultation with the residents we develop menus that provide genuine and authentic choices for our residents where local preferences and tastes are accommodated.
Breakfast with a difference
Prior to the implementation of our philosophy of care, Rhythm of Life, breakfast was scheduled at a set time that may have suited early risers, but certainly not all residents. Our extended breakfasts (link RoL breakfast video) support residents in their individual dining needs who now have:
- A two hour window to enjoy breakfast
- The option to order individual hot or cold menu items
- Table, self-serve buffet options including a selection of cereals, breads and condiments, freshly squeezed juice, pancakes and eggs to order
- Free seating where they can mix with different residents each day
- The option to dine in their room.
Staff are also encouraged to spend time with residents, such as joining them with a cup of tea, so they can build meaningful relationships.
