What the New Aged Care Act Means for You (and Your Loved Ones) 

From today, 1 November 2025, Australia’s new Aged Care Act comes into effect – marking one of the biggest changes to the aged care system in recent years. 
 If you or someone you love receives support at home, you might be wondering what this means for you. The good news is: the focus remains right where it should be – on you, your needs, and your choice. 

What’s changing 

The new Act is built around a simple but powerful principle: putting older Australians at the centre of care. 
 It introduces: 

• A stronger rights-based framework that protects your choices and ensures your voice is heard. 
• A single aged care program that will eventually replace the current system, including Home Care Packages and the Commonwealth Home Support Program, to make access simpler and fairer. 
• More flexibility in how services can be delivered, so care can adapt as your needs change. 

These changes aim to make it easier to get the right support at the right time – and to ensure you’re treated with dignity, respect and genuine care. 

What stays the same 

If you’re already receiving care through Anglicare, your support and care team remain the same.

There’s no need to reapply or change your services. Your plan will continue as usual, and we’ll work with you to make any adjustments if or when they’re needed.
