No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS)

Sometimes life throws things your way that you haven't planned for financially. Your car breaks down and needs urgent repairs, or you won't get to work next week. Your heater stops working in the middle of winter and your kids are getting sick. Your fridge bites the dust.

The No-Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) can give you safe, fair and affordable credit, when you need it most. Your NILS loan can give you up to $2,000, for the purchase of things like household items, car repairs and registration, medical expenses, technology and education.

You can also borrow up to $3,000 for a bond on a new rental property or costs associated with a natural disaster.

Phones and tablets are capped at $1,000.

Am I eligible for a NILS loan?

To successfully apply for a NILS loan, you'll need to meet one of the following criteria:

• You have a Health Care Card or Pension Card; or
• You earn less than $70,000 per year before tax as a single; or
• You earn less than $100,000 per year before tax if you have a partner or dependants; or
• You have experienced family or domestic violence in the last 10 years.

You'll also need to:

• Have lived at your current address for a minimum of three months.
• Show that you can afford to repay the loan. Your loan can be repaid over a period of 24 months, and Anglicare's friendly team will work with you to arrange an affordable repayment plan.

In addition to helping you pay for what you need, a NILS loan can help you establish a repayment record, which may assist with future financial dealings.
