Types of Adoption
Anglicare provides two types of adoption services:
Local adoption is a voluntary type of adoption. Anglicare Sydney has been providing a local adoption service since 1958.
Adoption from foster care
As an accredited adoption service, Anglicare can process the adoption of children from long term foster care. Families who would like to provide care for a child long term can be authorised both as an adoptive parent and as a foster carer. This means that if adoption will meet the best interests of the child in their long term care, then the process of taking the matter to court is more streamlined. This is called ‘dual authorisation’.
Other types of adoption:
Anglicare Sydney is not accredited to support adoption of a child from overseas (intercountry adoption) or a child who is a family member to you, such as a step-child (intrafamily adoption). For these adoption services, please contact FACS adoption.
