Types of Adoption
Anglicare Sydney offers three different types of adoption
Anglicare’s Local Adoption program supports birth parents who make the difficult decision to place their child for adoption. Anglicare embraces open adoption practices ensuring children are raised knowing that they are adopted and connected to their birth family.
Anglicare Sydney has been providing a local adoption service since 1958.
When a child with special needs requires adoption. Anglicare considers adoptive parents who have demonstrated capacity to care for a child with a special need.
Adoption from Foster Care
As an accredited adoption service, Anglicare can process the adoption of children from long term foster care. Families who would like to provide care for a child long term can be authorised both as an adoptive parent and as a foster carer. This means that if adoption will meet the best interests of the child in their long term care, then the process of taking the matter to court is more streamlined. This is called ‘dual authorisation’. Other types of adoption:
Anglicare Sydney is not accredited to support adoption of a child from overseas (intercountry adoption) or a child who is a family member to you, such as a step-child (intrafamily adoption). For these adoption services, please contact DCJ adoption.
