Melanie is an 11 and a half year old young girl who is very playful, curious and engaging. Melanie loves to be outdoors swimming, bush walking, riding her bike, scooter, skateboard or even pogo stick! Melanie enjoys playing with dolls and toys like a much younger child. She needs a lot of routine, structure and predictability in her life to help her feel safe. Melanie really wants to have connections with people but can find it tricky at times.
Melanie’s carers would work alongside her support team including a psychologist, occupational therapist, paediatrician and psychiatrist to meet Melanie’s needs. Melanie can feel threatened if competing for the attention of care givers and so would need to be the only child in the home. When she feels threatened, Melanie can become aggressive towards adults and children, trying to hurt them and herself. Melanie needs a lot of sensory input to help her keep her cool, this looks like a lot of activities throughout the day that help soothe her in a safe and supportive way. Melanie finds academics challenging and needs additional help to understand what’s going on in the classroom. Melanie will need the support of a safe loving adults into her adult life to help her grow and develop.
Melanie’s foster carers will receive support from Anglicare. If you think you would be able to care for Melanie please contact us.
